The average temperature in January, the coldest month, is 13 C (55 F). But even in the coldest hours of the night in January the temperature in Almeria dips no lower than 6 or 7 C (43 F to 45 F). However, many days and late afternoons in the depths of winter will reach 15 (59 F) or more. August is the hottest month with an average of 27 C (80 F) though in peak sunlight temperatures can rise into the low 30s C (90s F). The water temperature along the beaches in August is a delightful 25 C (77 F). Almeria can be breezy at times, but there is very little rain and the climate is considered a desert.

The city is lit magnificently, with marvelous decorations everywhere at Christmas. The beautiful marble tiled Cathedral Square, a three-minute walk from Casa Vicki, has a dazzling spectacle of lights, wonderful music and holiday presentations. The Plaza Vieja just a few minutes north of Cathedral square has a Christmas Village of boutique shops and regular evening music programs. The Rambla, another main thoroughfare in Almeria, has an even larger Christmas village of boutique shops. So Christmas is an inviting time in this historic town.

Easter is quite unique. Parish organizations known as Brotherhoods march through the streets from every nearby church with scores of ‘penitents’ dressed in colorful robes and with a pointed headpiece, that to visiting Americans, look shockingly like Ku Klux Klan outfits. Those wearing these outfits are on their way to the grand Cathedral to confess.
